Don’t Sell Your Cocoa Farms to Galamseyers, Bosome Freho Cocoa Officer Urges Farmers
Mr. Felix Nketia Boadi, the Asiwa District Cocoa Officer , has issued a stern warning to cocoa farmers in the Bosome Freho District, urging them not to sell their cocoa farms to galamsey operators, who are known for causing severe environmental damage.

Addressing participants at the 41st National Farmers Day Celebration held at Tɛbɛso No. 2, Mr. Boadi emphasized the long-term benefits of cocoa farming compared to the short-term financial gains offered by galamsey activities. He stressed that while galamsey may provide quick cash, it destroys the land and undermines sustainable livelihoods.
“Galamsey money is a one-time gain, but cocoa revenue lasts for many years. With the current encouraging prices of cocoa, there is no reason to give your farms to galamseyers, who will destroy your land and jeopardize your future,” Mr. Boadi stated.
He also highlighted the support provided by the Cocoa Office to farmers in the district, including the distribution of high-quality cocoa seedlings and fertilizers. These initiatives have enabled farmers to improve yields and enjoy more sustainable farming practices.
Mr. Boadi identified illegal mining as one of the major challenges affecting agriculture in the district, calling on farmers to protect their land and work closely with the district cocoa office. He encouraged farmers to embrace cocoa farming as a reliable source of income and a key driver of community development.
The 41st National Farmers Day Celebration brought together farmers, traditional leaders, and district officials to recognize the invaluable contributions of farmers and to promote sustainable agricultural practices in the Bosome Freho District.
