Okomfo Nana Baffour Gyau, the spiritual leader of Asuo Pamuu Spiritual and Herbal Home in Sefwi Abofrem in the Western Region, has urged parents and guardians to support and nurture the spiritual talents of their children. Speaking at the 14th Yam Festival in Bibiani Old Town in the Ashanti Region, he encouraged families to embrace these gifts as divine blessings rather than condemning or discouraging them.
Recognizing God-Given Talents
Okomfo Gyau shared a personal testimony of how the Akom spirit came upon him while he was still a student, signaling his destiny as a fetish priest. However, his journey was not without challenges, as his parents initially opposed his calling, hoping he would pursue a career in education.
“At first, my parents did not agree with my decision because they wanted me to become an educationist. But today, I am the breadwinner of my family, and my priesthood has become a blessing not only to them but to my entire community,” he recounted.
He described his role as a fetish priest as a divine gift to his community and encouraged parents to recognize and support their children’s potential.
Allow Children to Maximize Their Talents
Okomfo Gyau emphasized the importance of observing and nurturing children’s unique abilities, whether spiritual or otherwise.
“When you see your child holding a Bible to preach, it means they could become a great man of God in the future. When you see your child holding a bodua or playing drums, it means they might become a powerful fetish priest. Allow them to maximize their God-given potential talents,” he advised.
He urged parents not to dismiss these signs but to guide and support their children in developing their talents to serve humanity.
A Leader Committed to Giving Back
Okomfo Gyau has become a beacon of hope in his community, using his priesthood to support the vulnerable through donations and other charitable acts. He described his priesthood as not just a personal calling but a responsibility to uplift his people and address their physical, spiritual, and emotional needs.
“My priesthood is a gift from God to my community. It has allowed me to impact lives positively and provide support where it is needed most,” he stated.

In addition to encouraging parents, Okomfo Gyau stressed the importance of preserving Ghana’s spiritual and cultural heritage. He called on traditional leaders and community members to protect and celebrate these practices, as they form an integral part of the nation’s identity.
