A horrific road accident involving a commercial Urvan bus and a school bus occurred at Dichemso Plaza in the Kumasi Metropolis of the Ashanti Region on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, leaving multiple victims injured and four in critical condition.

The Urvan bus, which was carrying 15 nursing students, collided head-on with a school bus. Fortunately, the school bus had no students on board at the time of the incident, preventing what could have been an even greater tragedy.

Eyewitnesses described the impact of the crash as devastating. The collision left several passengers trapped and screaming for help as bystanders rushed to assist. “It was a very terrifying scene. One of the victims had her leg severed, while three others went unconscious immediately after the crash,” an eyewitness recounted with shock.

Emergency services responded quickly, and the injured students were rushed to nearby hospitals for urgent medical attention. Hospital officials have since confirmed that four of the victims remain in critical condition and are battling for their lives.

Details released by the police indicate that the Urvan bus was registered AS-9840-10, while the school bus carried the registration GS-3743-22. Police personnel, who arrived promptly at the scene, managed traffic flow and launched preliminary investigations into the circumstances leading to the accident.

Though the exact cause of the collision has not yet been established, authorities suspect possible overspeeding or reckless driving. Investigations are ongoing to ascertain the facts and assign responsibility.

The tragic incident has reignited conversations about road safety in Kumasi and across Ghana. Concerned residents, many of whom gathered at the scene, expressed worry over the frequent occurrence of accidents in busy city centers. They are calling on transport operators, commercial drivers, and authorities to prioritize safety measures and stricter enforcement of traffic regulations.

As families, colleagues, and friends of the affected nursing students anxiously await positive news from the hospitals, the incident serves as another grim reminder of the dangers of road travel and the urgent need for vigilance on Ghana’s roads.
