A tragic accident at Dichemso Plaza in Kumasi on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, has left residents horrified after a commercial Urvan bus transporting nursing students collided with a school bus, resulting in multiple injuries and four victims in critical condition.

The Urvan bus, with registration number AS-9840-10, was carrying 15 nursing students when it rammed into a school bus with registration GS-3743-22. Fortunately, the school bus was not carrying any children at the time, averting what could have been an even greater disaster.
Eyewitnesses who spoke to reporters described the crash as “gory and terrifying.” According to them, the impact was so violent that several students were trapped inside the mangled bus. One student had a leg severed, while three others were rendered unconscious on the spot.
“The cries for help were unbearable. We rushed to assist before the ambulance arrived. It was heartbreaking to see such young students in that condition,” an eyewitness recounted with emotion.

Emergency teams, including the police and ambulance service, responded swiftly to the distress calls. The injured students were rushed to nearby hospitals in Kumasi, where doctors confirmed that four are in critical condition and are receiving intensive medical care. Others sustained varying degrees of injury but are said to be stable.

Police officers on the scene worked to restore calm, clear traffic congestion, and begin initial investigations. While the exact cause of the crash is yet to be determined, reckless driving and overspeeding are suspected to be possible factors. Authorities have assured the public that a full investigation will be conducted to establish the facts.

The accident has reignited public concern over road safety in Kumasi and other urban areas. Residents who gathered at the scene lamented the increasing number of road crashes in the metropolis and urged drivers to be more vigilant. Some also appealed to transport authorities to intensify road safety campaigns and enforce stricter traffic regulations.

As families and friends of the nursing students anxiously await updates from the hospitals, this tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of road accidents and the urgent need for responsible driving across the country.
