“Denase in Fear After Targeted Shooting Leaves Two Dead, Three Hospitalized

Residents of Denase, a  community in the Afigya Kwabre North District of the Ashanti Region, have been left terrified and on edge following a deadly shooting incident that claimed the lives of two individuals and left three others critically injured on Wednesday night, July 24, 2025.

The disturbing event, which occurred around 9:00 PM, has triggered widespread fear and panic among community members, many of whom are struggling to come to terms with the level of violence that has rocked their once-peaceful neighborhood.

Eyewitnesses who spoke to AKOMA News recounted chilling moments when the sound of multiple gunshots shattered the evening calm. According to reports, unidentified gunmen ambushed a vehicle and opened fire indiscriminately on its occupants, causing chaos and confusion in the area. Residents were seen running for their lives as the gunshots echoed through the community.

Three victims who sustained severe injuries in the attack were quickly rushed to the Offinso Saint Patrick Hospital, where they are currently receiving emergency treatment. Medical staff at the facility have confirmed that the injured are in stable condition but remain under close observation.

Mr. Alhassan, the Committee Chairman for Denase, confirmed in an interview that the nature of the attack suggests it was not a random act of violence or robbery. “This appears to be a targeted assault. The victims were in a specific vehicle, and the assailants fired at them repeatedly. We counted 14 bullet shells at the scene,” he revealed.

He further noted that this is not the first time such a violent incident has occurred in the area, raising serious concerns among residents about their safety and the increasing presence of criminal elements within the district.

Some residents, who spoke on condition of anonymity, have hinted at the possibility of a contract killing, fueling further speculation and anxiety within the community. “The way the attack happened, it didn’t look like they were there to steal. They came for specific people,” one resident suggested.

Police officers from the Afigya Kwabre North District Command have since visited the crime scene and commenced investigations. They have assured the public of their commitment to bringing the perpetrators to justice and restoring calm to the area.

Meanwhile, the community of Denase remains in a state of fear, with residents calling on the Ghana Police Service and the Ministry of Interior to increase security patrols and take urgent steps to address what they describe as a growing threat to life and property.

As investigations continue, families of the victims are mourning their loved ones, while others pray for the speedy recovery of the injured. The incident has sent a clear and chilling message: Denase, once a peaceful community, is now grappling with the frightening reality of targeted violence.
