A Delta Air Lines flight carrying 80 passengers and crew crash-landed and overturned while attempting to land amid severe winter weather at Toronto Pearson International Airport on Monday. Miraculously, all onboard survived, though 18 people sustained injuries, including a child and two adults in critical condition.
According to aviation officials, the plane encountered extreme icy conditions and poor visibility upon descent, making the landing particularly difficult. The aircraft reportedly skidded off the runway before flipping onto its side, sending emergency responders rushing to the scene.
Paramedics confirmed that among the injured, two adults and a child are in critical condition and receiving urgent medical attention. Others sustained minor injuries and were treated at nearby hospitals.
Speaking at a press briefing, airport authorities assured the public that an investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the crash. “The safety of passengers and crew is always our top priority. We are working closely with aviation experts and Delta Air Lines to assess what led to this incident,” an official stated.
Delta Air Lines has also issued a statement expressing relief that all passengers and crew survived, while extending support to those injured. “We are deeply grateful that all lives were spared in this unfortunate incident. Our thoughts are with those recovering, and we are cooperating fully with authorities to understand what happened,” the airline noted.
Toronto Pearson International Airport temporarily halted operations on affected runways as emergency teams worked to clear the wreckage and assess runway conditions. Passengers scheduled for flights were advised to check for updates as winter weather continued to pose challenges.
The incident has raised fresh concerns about the risks associated with severe weather conditions in air travel, prompting calls for enhanced safety measures and preparedness during winter operations.
