DCE, MP Deliver on Clean Water Promise as 10 Water Supply Projects Begin in Ahafo Ano South East

The Ahafo Ano South East District is poised for a major improvement in access to clean and safe drinking water following the commencement of ten water supply projects by the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Ibrahim Isaak Ayaba Nelson, in collaboration with the Member of Parliament for the constituency, Hon. Yakubu Mohammed.
The projects, which comprise five Small Town Water Supply Systems and five standpipe water supply projects, form part of the government’s commitment to expanding potable water coverage, particularly in rural and peri-urban communities where water scarcity has long affected daily life, sanitation and public health.
Sod-cutting ceremonies to officially signal the start of the projects were held in several beneficiary communities, including Adugyame Zongo, Biemso Number Two, Asempanaye and seven other communities across the district. The ceremonies attracted traditional rulers, assembly members, opinion leaders and residents, many of whom described the initiative as a timely response to years of persistent water challenges.
Addressing the gatherings, Hon. Ibrahim Isaak Ayaba Nelson explained that the projects are designed to expand water supply capacity, improve the reliability and flexibility of existing systems and ensure sustainable access to clean drinking water for thousands of residents in the district.

According to the DCE, the Small Town Water Supply Systems will serve multiple communities, reduce dependence on unsafe water sources and significantly improve public health outcomes. He described the intervention as one of the most ambitious water infrastructure projects ever undertaken in the Ahafo Ano South East District.
“This is, by far, the biggest water project in the history of this district. Access to clean drinking water is not a luxury but a basic necessity and a critical driver of development,” he stated.
Explaining the rationale behind the initiative, Hon. Ibrahim Isaak Ayaba Nelson noted that rapid population growth in communities such as Adugyame and other parts of the district has placed immense pressure on existing water infrastructure, resulting in a situation where demand continues to outstrip supply.

He observed that the water shortage has affected not only household consumption but also sanitation, healthcare delivery and overall living conditions, making the implementation of a comprehensive and sustainable solution imperative.
The DCE commended the government for prioritising rural water infrastructure development, noting that since President John Dramani Mahama assumed office, Ahafo Ano South East has witnessed visible improvements in key sectors including town roads, access to potable water and other essential social amenities.
“Since President John Dramani Mahama came into office, our district has seen remarkable progress in areas such as roads and water supply. These projects are clear evidence of the government’s commitment to improving the living standards of our people,” he said.
He therefore called on residents to continue to have confidence in the current National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration, assuring them that more development projects are in the pipeline to address the pressing needs of communities across the district.

Hon. Ibrahim Isaak Ayaba Nelson further urged beneficiary communities to take collective ownership of the projects, protect the facilities upon completion and fully cooperate with contractors to ensure timely completion and long-term sustainability.

Speaking on behalf of traditional authorities, Nana Osei Kwame, Chief of Nimfourkrom in the Ahafo Ano South East District, expressed appreciation to the government, the DCE and the Member of Parliament for responding to the long-standing water needs of the communities. He called on residents to continue to pray for President John Dramani Mahama, Hon. Yakubu Mohammed and Hon. Ibrahim Isaak Ayaba Nelson to enable them to deliver effectively on their development mandate.
Nana Osei Kwame also urged community members to support the contractors executing the projects, stressing that peaceful cooperation would ensure smooth implementation and timely completion for the benefit of all.
In his remarks, the Member of Parliament for the Ahafo Ano South East Constituency, Hon. Yakubu Mohammed, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to delivering on its campaign promises. He recalled that during the campaign period, assurances were given to improve educational infrastructure, including the provision of classroom blocks, and noted that those promises had already been fulfilled.
He emphasised that the commencement of the water projects further demonstrates the government’s determination to translate campaign pledges into tangible development outcomes that directly improve the welfare and quality of life of the people.
Residents across the beneficiary communities welcomed the intervention with excitement and gratitude, describing the water projects as a major relief that will significantly enhance health standards, sanitation, productivity and overall living conditions in the Ahafo Ano South East District.
