In a statement, Mr. Akugri praised the Minister’s commitment to sustainable environmental policies and urged him to prioritize sanitation reforms to improve public health and environmental sustainability.

Damak Sanitation Health Watch-Ghana highlighted critical sanitation challenges, including poor waste disposal, weak law enforcement, and insufficient public education. The organization emphasized the need for a comprehensive strategy to tackle these issues and proposed key policy interventions.

Key Recommendations for Strengthening Sanitation Governance

  • Enhancing legal enforcement: Implementing stricter laws and penalties against sanitation offenders to ensure compliance.
  • Improving waste management systems: Strengthening waste collection, recycling, and disposal mechanisms to create cleaner communities.
  • Establishing a specialized sanitation court: Fast-tracking sanitation-related cases to improve enforcement and accountability.

Engaging Children in Sanitation Advocacy

Recognizing that sustainable change starts with education, Damak Sanitation Health Watch-Ghana called for the involvement of children in sanitation campaigns. The organization proposed the following initiatives:

  • Integrating sanitation education into school curricula: Teaching students proper waste disposal, hygiene, and environmental conservation.
  • Creating youth-led sanitation advocacy groups: Encouraging young people to take leadership roles in community clean-up efforts.
  • Promoting school and community-based sanitation projects: Engaging children in practical initiatives to instill a culture of cleanliness.

Mr. Akugri reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to working closely with the Minister and other stakeholders to drive sustainable sanitation reforms.

“We believe that Hon. Mutala Mohammed’s leadership will bring innovative solutions to Ghana’s sanitation challenges. We look forward to collaborating with him to promote policies that will make our communities cleaner and healthier,” he stated.
