A new women-led initiative, the Daakye Asem Nti Fun Club, has been officially launched in Asante Yonso, a community within the Sekyere South District of the Ashanti Region. This organization, which is exclusively for women, aims to empower local women and tackle various social challenges in the community. Through advocacy, education, and support, the club seeks to equip women with the tools and knowledge they need to make informed decisions that positively impact their lives and the lives of their families.
One of the first activities organized by the Daakye Asem Nti Fun Club was a breast cancer awareness event. This inaugural initiative aimed to educate local women on the importance of early detection and prevention of breast cancer, a disease that remains one of the most significant health concerns for women worldwide. In a community where access to health information can be limited, awareness and preventive education are vital for improving health outcomes.
During the launch event, Madam Lydia Berfi, the president of the Daakye Asem Nti Fun Club, highlighted the club’s commitment to uplifting women, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds. She emphasized the role of women as the foundation of families and communities, underscoring the positive, far-reaching impact of empowering women on society as a whole.
“Women are often the heart of their families and communities, yet they face many challenges and lack opportunities,” Madam Berfi stated. “Our goal is to create a space where women can find support, knowledge, and empowerment, enabling them to make better choices for themselves and their families.”
Beyond health advocacy, the club also aims to support women in various aspects of life, providing them with resources and a network for growth and self-improvement. The launch event provided a platform for women in the community to discuss their challenges openly and seek support, and the club hopes to foster a culture of collaboration and mutual support among its members.
In her speech, Madam Berfi also used the occasion to address the upcoming general election, calling on political leaders and stakeholders to ensure a peaceful electoral process. She expressed her concern about the potential impact of electoral violence, noting that women and children often suffer the most during periods of instability. She urged leaders to prioritize the safety and well-being of all citizens, especially the vulnerable members of society.
Hon. Godwin Anto, the Assembly Member for the Yonso electoral area, commended the club’s mission and called for support from various stakeholders to help the group achieve its objectives. He encouraged community members, local businesses, and leaders to invest in the success of the Daakye Asem Nti Women’s Club, highlighting the importance of empowering women and girls to build a better future for the community.
“Supporting this group is an investment in our community’s future,” Hon. Anto said. “Women and girls, when empowered, become stronger contributors to society, and this club is a crucial part of that journey.”
The launch of the Daakye Asem Nti Women’s Club represents a significant step toward enhancing women’s empowerment and health advocacy in Asante Yonso and the broader Sekyere South District. The club is positioned as a vital resource for local women, equipping them to make informed decisions, address social challenges, and advocate for better health outcomes. With support from community members and stakeholders, the Daakye Asem Nti Fun Club has the potential to drive meaningful change and inspire a new generation of empowered women in the community.
As the club continues to grow, it aims to extend its impact through various programs and initiatives that address pressing issues affecting women, families, and the community at large. The focus on both empowerment and advocacy highlights a growing recognition of the essential role women play in fostering resilient and sustainable communities, creating a brighter future for all members of Asante Yonso and beyond.
