Nana Kwaku Bonsam, leader of the Fetish Priests and Priestesses Association of the Ashanti Region, has suggested that corruption in Ghana could be significantly reduced if politicians and public officials were required to swear oaths using traditional deities, rather than religious texts.
Speaking at a news conference today in Asenemaso Nkwanta, ahead of the December 2024 general elections, Nana Kwaku Bonsam proposed that using eggs and schnapps in traditional oaths could instill a greater sense of accountability and fear of retribution among politicians. He argued that this practice might deter corrupt behavior more effectively than oaths taken on the Bible or Quran.
Nana Kwaku Bonsam emphasized that swearing by the traditional gods could serve as a powerful deterrent against corruption. He expressed confidence that such practices would bring an end to the pervasive corruption issues in the country.
In his address, Nana Kwaku Bonsam also called for unity among fetish priests and priestesses to enhance the promotion of their religion and contribute to national development.
He concluded by stating that the association is prepared to mobilize funds and offer significant electoral support to any political party that backs their proposal in the upcoming 2024 general elections.
