A trotro driver, Jephter Boateng, and his mate Sadick Arthur have been arrested by the Central Regional Police Command after a video showed the two persons pulling out a police officer from their vehicle, dragging him on the ground and subjecting him to beatings.
A situation report issued by the police indicated that last Monday while the police officer was undertaking traffic control duties at the University of Cape Coast main entrance, he spotted the infringement of a traffic regulation by the suspect driver who was driving from Elmina and heading for Accra.
The police officer stopped the driver and ordered that he drive to the police station. Upon reaching the Police headquarters at Pedu, however, the driver failed to stop and rather did so at the Hacienda Hotel, Cape Coast.
At the spot, the driver pulled out the policeman and dragged him on the ground after which he and his mate subjected him to merciless beating. It took the intervention of a passerby to save the cop from further beatings, the outcome of which could have been worse than what he endured.
By the time he was saved, the white tunic, the MTTD white top was no longer its original colour.
Both suspects are being detained as investigations prior to their appearance in court are ongoing.
