Conference of Principals of Technical Institutions Holds 2025 Mini Conference in Kumasi to Champion Industry-Aligned Technical Education

The Conference of Principals of Technical Institutions has opened its 2025 Mini Conference in Kumasi, bringing together key educational leaders to chart a new course for technical and vocational education in Ghana. The three-day event, held from April 9 to 11 at the PSWU (PSC Centre) in Adiembra, is themed “Developing Skills for the Future: Aligning Technical and Vocational Education with Industry Needs.”

The conference serves as a strategic platform for principals of technical institutions across the country to deliberate on the evolving needs of Ghana’s labour market and how best to tailor educational content and delivery to meet those needs. Discussions focus on equipping students with practical, industry-relevant skills that can boost employability and entrepreneurship.

Delivering the keynote address, Engineer Dr. Eric Kofi Adzroe, Director-General of the Ghana TVET Service, underscored the transformative role of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in national development. “TVET must be seen not as an alternative, but as a primary path to success. We must train our students with both knowledge and practical skills that meet the demands of a modern economy,” he stated. Dr. Adzroe also advocated for the expansion of apprenticeship and hands-on learning opportunities to bridge the gap between training and practice.

Throughout the conference, participants are engaged in workshops, panel discussions, and networking sessions aimed at strengthening the connection between technical education and industry. These engagements are expected to foster innovation, promote best practices, and enhance institutional collaboration.

A major highlight of the conference is the election of new national executives for the Conference of Principals of Technical Institutions. The incoming leadership is tasked with advocating for greater investment in technical institutions, pushing for curriculum reforms, and ensuring the welfare of students and staff.

Speaking during the event, Mr. Asamoah Duku, Vice President of the Conference of Principals of Technical Institutions, stressed the importance of visionary leadership. “We are looking for dedicated individuals who will work selflessly to advance technical education and improve outcomes for students across the country,” he said.

The 2025 Mini Conference marks a crucial step toward reimagining technical education in Ghana, positioning it as a cornerstone for national development and industrial growth.
