COMRADE FYNN WRITES: A CALL FOR REFLECTION, NOT RECRIMINATION

It is deeply regrettable that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the 2024 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has chosen to question the actions of an experienced and proven leader, President John Dramani Mahama, regarding the halting of illegal recruitments after the December 7 elections. This comes after Dr. Bawumia himself conceded defeat in the polls. His recent statements on the matter have sparked widespread debate, particularly concerning their implications for governance and the economy.

Dr. Bawumia must be reminded that recruitment into the public sector is a process that should be guided by merit and aligned with budgetary constraints, not by the impulsive actions of a disappointed politician seeking to undermine an incoming administration. His criticism of President Mahama’s decision raises questions about his understanding of good governance and accountability.

One cannot help but wonder why Dr. Bawumia and the NPP government did not prioritize the employment of these individuals during their tenure, especially in the middle of 2024 when the cries of Ghanaian youth for jobs were deafening. The youth demanded nothing more than opportunities for employment, yet the NPP government failed to deliver on this critical front.

Furthermore, where was Dr. Bawumia when his own administration, under President Nana Akufo-Addo, dismissed individuals who were recruited prior to the 2016 elections? This selective amnesia and apparent double standard do not go unnoticed by the Ghanaian electorate.

Instead of casting aspersions, Dr. Bawumia would do well to engage in sober reflection on the reasons behind the NPP’s unprecedented and historic defeat in the 2024 general elections. The Ghanaian people have spoken, and their verdict was clear. Rather than expending energy on misplaced criticisms, Dr. Bawumia should focus on rebuilding the fractured and increasingly unattractive NPP he has left behind.

It is important to remind Dr. Bawumia that the Ghanaian youth are well aware of his track record. No amount of pretense or political posturing can erase the memories of his role in the unprecedented economic challenges and skyrocketing unemployment that characterized his time in office. Ghanaians have not forgotten, and no amount of rebranding will restore his credibility or integrity in their eyes.

The destruction of the Ghanaian economy and the worsening unemployment crisis under Dr. Bawumia’s watch remain fresh in the minds of the youth. He should, therefore, abandon any notion of presenting himself as a viable leader to the Ghanaian people in the future.

To the NPP and Dr. Bawumia, the message from the Ghanaian electorate is clear: **Never again!**
