Adwoa Wiafe, Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer at MTN Ghana, will headline the Africa Climate Communication Summit 2025 (Virtual Edition) with a keynote address that places communication at the center of Africa’s climate resilience agenda. The summit, which comes ahead of the UNFCCC Conference of the Parties (COP) in Brazil this November, will run under the theme “Towards a Climate Resilient Africa through Strategic Communication.”

Placing Communication at the Forefront

For years, Adwoa Wiafe has been recognized as a transformative leader in corporate sustainability, working to align MTN Ghana’s business operations with environmental and social responsibility. At the company, she has championed sustainability pillars that include:

Reducing carbon emissions and adopting renewable, green technologies

Strengthening inclusive community development and digital inclusion

Promoting ethical leadership, transparency, and accountability

Her keynote address will stress that effective climate communication goes beyond information-sharing to inspire action at multiple levels—policymakers, businesses, and communities. By telling Africa’s climate story in a way that resonates with lived experiences, she will argue, communication can bridge the gap between science, policy, and people. “Climate communication is more than just awareness, it is about mobilizing action. At MTN Ghana, we are committed to telling Africa’s climate story in a way that empowers people, protects the environment, and secures a sustainable future for generations to come,” Wiafe said ahead of the summit.

A Continental Platform for Storytelling

The Africa Climate Communication Summit 2025 will bring together journalists, storytellers, scientists, communication experts, and creative artists from across Africa and the diaspora, including participants from Benin, Mali, Nigeria, and the United Kingdom.

The gathering will serve as a platform for storytelling and exchange, enabling participants to share practical strategies for reframing climate narratives in ways that inspire resilience and innovation. Sessions will focus on how Africa can use media, culture, and digital platforms to shift climate conversations from technical jargon to community-driven action and solutions.

Private Sector Driving Change

In her keynote, Adwoa Wiafe will also highlight the private sector’s pivotal role in climate action. By showcasing MTN Ghana’s sustainability journey, she will demonstrate how corporations can act as catalysts for change, balancing profitability with environmental stewardship.

Her address will emphasize that businesses, when supported by strong communication strategies, can lead collaborative efforts with governments, NGOs, and communities to build climate-smart economies and more resilient societies.

Africa’s Climate Narrative – From Risk to Resilience

The summit comes at a time when Africa faces escalating climate challenges, from rising sea levels and extreme weather events to food insecurity and biodiversity loss. Yet, the continent also presents immense opportunities for renewable energy innovation, sustainable agriculture, and community-driven resilience models.

Organizers note that communication is key to ensuring Africa’s climate story is told clearly, boldly, and inclusively—portraying Africans not as victims, but as leaders shaping a sustainable global future.
