Come with Clean Hearts”—Kumasi Churches Ahead of July 1 Thanksgiving Service

In the lead-up to the 2025 National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving, the Kumasi Council of Christian Churches (KCCC) has made a heartfelt appeal to all Ghanaians to participate in the event with clean hearts, a spirit of humility, and national unity.

Addressing the media on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at the St. Cyprian’s Anglican Cathedral in Kumasi, the leadership of the KCCC urged the public to treat the upcoming program—scheduled for Tuesday, July 1—as a sacred moment of national reflection rather than a political gathering.

Rev. Dr. Douglas Okonah Frimpong, General Overseer of the Center for Christian Outreach Ministries and Chairman of the Planning Committee, stressed that the event is a church service, not a political platform. He advised all attendees to dress decently and avoid wearing political party colours or branded attire. “I don’t expect anyone to turn up in party colours or political T-shirts. Please, leave those at home. Come with a clean heart and the right spirit,” Rev. Dr. Okonah Frimpong cautioned.
“This is not the place to do politics—we are coming together to pray and seek God’s favour over Ghana.”

The National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving, instituted to promote peace, spiritual reflection, and national unity, is an annual observance calling Ghanaians from all walks of life to pause and give thanks to God for His protection and blessings over the nation.

This year’s celebration is being held under the theme: “Reset, Reflect, and Renew for National Prosperity.”

According to Rev. Dr. Okonah Frimpong, the theme encourages citizens to examine the nation’s moral and developmental journey, to reset from division and conflict, and to renew their commitment to peace and progress. “The time has come for us to lay aside our political, ethnic, and religious differences,” he said.
“Let’s unite in faith, reflect on our past, and look forward to a more prosperous future together.”

In the Ashanti Region, the Christian service will take place at Calvary Charismatic Centre (CCC), located behind the Tech Police Station, from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.. Later, the Islamic Prayer and Thanksgiving service will be held at 12:30 p.m. at the Kumasi Central Mosque, showcasing the interfaith nature of the celebration.

Also present at the media briefing were key government representatives. Mr. Emmanuel Opoku, speaking on behalf of the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, acknowledged that while governance and civic discipline have helped maintain Ghana’s peace, the grace of God remains the true foundation of national stability. “It is the grace of God that sustains this country,” he said.
“That is why former President John Dramani Mahama wisely instituted this National Day of Prayer—to honour that divine role in our nation’s journey.”

Madam Henrietta Konadu, representing the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) Mayor, Hon. Richard Ofori Agyeman Boadi, also added her voice in support of the initiative. She called for focused prayers for Ghana’s youth and public servants. “The Mayor is fully behind this initiative,” she said.
“He is especially pleased that it brings together people of all faiths to pray for our nation. At a time like this, what we need most is divine direction, peace, and unity.”

The Kumasi Council of Christian Churches, made up of leaders from various denominations, reaffirmed its commitment to organizing a spiritually uplifting and inclusive event that would reflect the nation’s shared values and aspirations.

As July 1 approaches, the message from the clergy is loud and clear:
“Come with clean hearts—not slogans or symbols. Let us kneel before God in prayer and renew our hope for a united and prosperous Ghana.”
