Chief of Drobonso Laments Deplorable Roads Affecting Over 60 Communities

The Chief of Drobonso, Nana Dwamena Dankwah Dwubisaw, has expressed deep concern over the deteriorating state of road infrastructure in the Sekyere Afram Plains District of the Ashanti Region, describing the situation as a major obstacle to development and the daily lives of residents.

According to the traditional ruler, more than 60 communities within the district continue to endure severe hardship due to poor road conditions. He noted that the only tarred road linking Kumawu to Drobonso is grossly inadequate to meet the transportation needs of the area, leaving several communities isolated, especially during the rainy season.

Nana Dwamena Dankwah Dwubisaw made the lamentation during the Miss Drobonso Beauty Pageant 2025, where he used the platform to appeal to the Government of Ghana to urgently intervene. He specifically called for the tarring of the Drobonso–Jeduako road and other critical roads to improve accessibility and promote socio-economic development in the district.

The chief explained that the deplorable nature of the road network continues to affect the transportation of farm produce to major markets, leading to increased post-harvest losses and higher transportation costs. He added that the situation has discouraged investment, slowed economic growth and limited access to essential social services, including healthcare and education.

Touching on education, Nana Dwamena Dankwah Dwubisaw appealed for the completion of the dormitory facility at the Drobonso Community Day Senior High School. He said the absence of adequate boarding facilities continues to restrict access to secondary education for students from distant communities, thereby affecting academic progress and enrolment.

The traditional ruler also called for the establishment of a Nursing and Midwifery Training School in the Sekyere Afram Plains District to enhance healthcare delivery and provide training opportunities for the youth. He stressed that such an institution would help bridge the gap in healthcare personnel while contributing to the overall development of the district.

The chief urged government and relevant authorities to respond swiftly to the district’s infrastructural and educational needs, emphasising that inclusive national development requires deliberate investment in rural communities such as Sekyere Afram Plains.
