Chief Appeals for Nursing and Midwifery Training School for Sekyere Afram Plains
The Chief of Drobonso, Nana Dwamena Dankwah Dwubisaw, has appealed to the Government of Ghana to establish a Nursing and Midwifery Training School in the Sekyere Afram Plains District of the Ashanti Region, describing the move as critical to improving healthcare delivery and expanding educational opportunities for the youth.

The traditional ruler made the appeal during the Miss Drobonso Beauty Pageant 2025, where he used the platform to highlight the broader developmental challenges confronting the district. He noted that the absence of a health training institution continues to affect the availability of trained healthcare professionals in the area, placing additional pressure on existing health facilities.

Nana Dwamena Dankwah Dwubisaw explained that a Nursing and Midwifery Training School would help address the shortage of nurses and midwives in the district while providing local students with access to professional training without having to travel long distances. He added that such an institution would also contribute to job creation and stimulate local economic growth.

Beyond healthcare training, the chief also drew attention to the poor state of road infrastructure in the Sekyere Afram Plains District. He lamented that more than 60 communities continue to suffer from deplorable road conditions, noting that the only tarred road linking Kumawu to Drobonso is grossly inadequate to meet the transportation needs of residents.

He therefore appealed to government to prioritise the tarring of key roads, particularly the Drobonso–Jeduako road, to improve access, facilitate the transportation of farm produce and enhance overall development in the predominantly agrarian district.

Touching on education, Nana Dwamena Dankwah Dwubisaw further called for the completion of the dormitory facility at the Drobonso Community Day Senior High School. He said the lack of boarding accommodation continues to limit access to secondary education for students from distant communities, affecting enrolment and academic performance.

The chief urged government and relevant stakeholders to respond with urgency to the district’s developmental needs, emphasising that sustainable national development can only be achieved when rural and underserved communities such as the Sekyere Afram Plains are adequately supported.
