Cervical Cancer Is Preventable If Detected Early — Mansa Memorial Hospital Educates Women

A Senior Midwife at the Mansa Memorial Hospital at Akyewkrom in the Ejisu Municipal of the Ashanti Region, Madam Akua Nyarko Antwi, has urged women to prioritise regular cervical cancer screening, stressing that early detection remains the most effective way to prevent the disease.

She explained that cervical cancer continues to be one of the leading causes of death among women, largely due to late detection and inadequate awareness. According to her, when the disease is identified at an early stage through routine screening, it can be successfully managed and treated.

Madam Akua Nyarko Antwi made these remarks during a free cervical cancer screening exercise organised by the Mansa Memorial Hospital in collaboration with the Prince Asamany Foundation at Akyewkrom. The initiative formed part of ongoing efforts to educate women and encourage proactive healthcare practices within the community.

She cautioned women against waiting for symptoms to appear before seeking medical attention, noting that cervical cancer often develops without early warning signs. She therefore encouraged women, especially those within the reproductive age bracket, to make screening a regular part of their health care routine.

Speaking at the event, the Chief Executive Officer of the Prince Asamany Foundation, Mr. Prince Asamany, described the foundation as a community-focused humanitarian organisation committed to improving lives through health, education and social support. He said the foundation is dedicated to protecting families, empowering women and saving lives.

Mr. Asamany explained that the primary objective of the exercise was to create awareness, eliminate fear and make cervical cancer screening easily accessible to women. He emphasised that access to basic health care services and timely information should be a right for all, not a privilege.

On his part, the Administrator of the Mansa Memorial Hospital, Mr. Emmanuel Oti Agyekum, reaffirmed the hospital’s strong commitment to women’s health and preventive care. He disclosed that the facility organises free health screening programmes for women on the last day of every month.

Mr. Agyekum added that the hospital consistently engages qualified health professionals with expertise in cervical cancer screening to ensure accurate diagnosis and quality care delivery. He encouraged women in Akyewkrom and surrounding communities to take advantage of the initiative and prioritise their health.
