Campaign With Decorum – Ashanti Region NPP Communication Officers Caution Kennedy Ohene Agyapong
The Ashanti Region Constituency Communication Officers of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have issued a strong caution to Hon. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, urging him to conduct his flagbearership campaign with decorum, restraint, and a heightened sense of responsibility as he tours the party’s traditional stronghold.
In a press press conference in Kumasi today, statement signed by constituency communication officers from forty (40) out of the forty-six (46) constituencies in the Ashanti Region, the officers first welcomed Hon. Kennedy Agyapong to the region but expressed deep concern over certain comments and conduct associated with his campaign activities. According to them, these developments have generated unease among grassroots supporters of the party across the region.
The officers, who serve as front-line communicators of the NPP, stated that they devote considerable time and effort to defending the party and projecting its image positively on radio, television, and other media platforms. However, they noted that this responsibility has increasingly become difficult due to intemperate language, divisive remarks, and statements perceived to carry tribal, religious, and ethnic undertones linked to Hon. Kennedy Agyapong and some members of his campaign team.
They cautioned that such conduct undermines their work, weakens the party’s public image, and threatens internal cohesion at a time when unity, discipline, and message coherence are critical. The Ashanti Region, they stressed, remains the electoral stronghold of the NPP and must continue to exemplify unity and strategic communication.
The communication officers further contrasted these challenges with what they described as the respectful, issue-based, and nationally appealing communication style of Vice President and NPP flagbearership aspirant, H.E. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, noting that his conduct presents no difficulty for party communicators to defend in the public space.
Consequently, the Ashanti Region NPP Communication Officers issued a firm caution to Hon. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, calling on him and his campaign team to exercise the highest level of circumspection in their public utterances. They stated emphatically that they would not tolerate hate speech, insults, vituperation, or personal attacks against any aspirant, warning that such actions only serve to divide the party and hand political ammunition to opponents.
They urged all flagbearership aspirants and their supporters to uphold the core values of respect, unity, and responsible communication, emphasizing that the ultimate objective of the party is victory, which can only be achieved through disciplined and issue-based campaigning.
The statement concluded with a reaffirmation of loyalty to the party and the nation, declaring: “Long live the New Patriotic Party, long live Asanteman, and long live Ghana.”
