A businessman and philanthropist, Mr. Joshua Agyei, has invested millions of Ghana cedis to construct a five-kilometer road linking Wamasi and Kɔkɔtenten in the Adansi Obuasi Municipality of the Ashanti Region. The project has brought great relief to residents who for over a decade had endured poor road conditions that made transportation difficult and expensive.

For many years, the stretch connecting the two communities was in a deplorable state. During the rainy season, the road became muddy and nearly impassable, while in the dry season it was dusty and hazardous. These challenges disrupted economic activities and left traders and commuters at the mercy of drivers who exploited the situation by charging unapproved fares.

Speaking to the media after the completion of the project, Mr. Agyei explained that he was touched by the hardship his people faced daily. According to him, his motivation for the gesture was rooted in the blessings he has received from God, which have made his business flourish. As a native of Mamasi, he felt it was only right to channel part of his resources into improving the lives of his people.

“For more than ten years, the people of Wamasi and Kɔkɔtenten have suffered. Market women and residents were being overcharged by drivers because of the bad road. That is why I decided to construct this new road to make movement easy for the people,” he said. He however appealed to government to tar the road permanently in order to preserve it and ensure its long-term durability.

Mr. Agyei pointed out that this is not the first time he has carried out such a charitable intervention. In the past, he has supported communities with the construction of school facilities, provided financial assistance to the needy, and contributed to various social development projects. He described his philanthropic work as part of his commitment to giving back to society and uplifting communities.

He also used the opportunity to encourage other businessmen to take their corporate social responsibility seriously by investing in the areas where they operate. He argued that when the private sector supports development at the grassroots, it eases the burden on government and directly benefits the local people.

Touching on environmental issues, Mr. Agyei made a passionate appeal to government to intensify regulation of the mining sector. He stressed the need to distinguish between legal miners and those engaged in illegal mining activities, which continue to pollute Ghana’s rivers and water bodies.

Residents of Wamasi and Kɔkɔtenten have expressed heartfelt gratitude to Mr. Agyei for his benevolence. They recounted how the bad road had for years subjected them to suffering, especially during the rainy season when vehicles could hardly move. According to them, the new road has already begun to change lives by reducing transport fares and easing movement.

“We have suffered a lot during the rainy and dry seasons. Drivers charge unapproved fares because of the poor road. We are very grateful to Mr. Joshua Agyei for helping us,” a resident said.

The residents also joined him in appealing to government to tar the road in order to complement his efforts and secure the project for future generations.

Through this initiative, Mr. Joshua Agyei has not only proven his deep love for his community but also demonstrated how individual success, when shared, can bring lasting change to society.
