Bosomefreho Assembly Orders Small-Scale Miners to Submit Licences for Responsible Mining

The Bosomefreho District Assembly has taken decisive steps to ensure responsible mining practices within the district by directing all small-scale miners to submit their operational licences for assessment. The initiative is part of a broader strategy to curb illegal mining activities and protect the district’s forests, water bodies, and roadside areas from environmental degradation.

During a crucial meeting with miners operating within the district, the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Charles Appiah Kubi, issued a one-week ultimatum for all miners to present their licence documents to the assembly. He emphasized that the assembly, through its dedicated taskforce, will strictly enforce regulations to prevent mining in environmentally sensitive areas, including rivers, forests, and roadsides.

Hon. Charles Appiah Kubi warned that any individual or group found engaging in illegal mining activities would face the full rigour of the law. “We are committed to ensuring that mining activities in Bosomefreho are carried out responsibly. There will be no tolerance for mining that destroys our natural resources or threatens the livelihoods of our people,” he stated.

In response to the assembly’s directives, members of the Small-Scale Miners Association within the district have pledged their full support to the initiative. They assured the assembly of their cooperation in submitting licences and adhering to environmentally friendly mining practices.

This move by the Bosomefreho District Assembly reflects a growing commitment by local authorities in Ghana to regulate small-scale mining, promote environmental sustainability, and protect communities from the adverse effects of illegal mining activities.

The assembly’s proactive approach is expected to foster responsible mining, safeguard critical natural resources, and ensure that economic activities within the district are sustainable and lawful.
