Bosome Freho Presiding Member Invests GH¢15,000 to Honour Outstanding Teachers at Dunkwa Circuit Awards Ceremony
The Presiding Member of the Bosome Freho District Assembly, Hon. Boakye De-Graft Maxwell, has demonstrated his commitment to education by investing GH¢15,000 to honour outstanding teachers at the second edition of the Dunkwa Circuit Teachers’ Awards Ceremony.

The event, which celebrated dedication, professionalism and excellence in teaching, was organised to motivate teachers and acknowledge their vital role in the development of the district. Education officials, traditional authorities, teachers and community members were in attendance.

Addressing the gathering, Hon. Boakye De-Graft Maxwell described teachers as the backbone of every successful society, noting that their sacrifices often go unnoticed, especially in rural communities. He said the awards scheme was introduced to appreciate hardworking teachers and inspire them to give off their best in the classroom.

He expressed concern about the poor road networks in parts of the Bosome Freho District, explaining that transportation challenges continue to affect teachers’ punctuality and accessibility to schools. According to him, these conditions pose serious threats to effective teaching and learning, and must be addressed to improve educational outcomes.

At the ceremony, nine teachers who distinguished themselves through dedication and commitment to duty were honoured. They received certificates, tablets and other educational items in recognition of their contributions to education in the Dunkwa Circuit. Hon. Maxwell noted that the GH¢15,000 spent on the programme was an investment in the future of the district.

The Presiding Member announced plans to institutionalise the Teachers’ Awards scheme across the entire Bosome Freho District and make it an annual event. He appealed to stakeholders, philanthropists and well-meaning individuals to support the initiative to ensure that more teachers benefit from the programme in the years ahead.

Mr. James Asamoah, Head of Inspection, who represented the District Director of Education, praised the Presiding Member for the initiative, describing it as timely and motivating. He also raised concerns about the impact of illegal mining activities on education, explaining that such activities divert students’ attention from their studies and threaten school attendance.

Traditional leaders present at the ceremony supported the call, stressing the need for collective action to protect children from the influence of illegal mining and to safeguard education in the district.

Some of the award recipients expressed deep appreciation to Hon. Boakye De-Graft Maxwell for the recognition, stating that the gesture has renewed their motivation to work harder and remain committed to shaping the lives of their pupils.

The ceremony ended with renewed calls for sustained investment in education and stronger collaboration among stakeholders to enhance teaching and learning in the Bosome Freho District.
