Bosome Freho DCE Warns PWDs Against Selling Start-Up Equipment, Urges Productive Use
The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Bosome Freho, Hon. Charles Appiah-Kubi, has issued a strong caution to persons living with disabilities (PWDs) in the district to desist from selling the start-up equipment provided to support their livelihoods. He emphasized that the items are not gifts or commodities for resale, but critical tools meant to empower beneficiaries economically and improve their standard of living.

Hon. Appiah-Kubi gave the warning during a brief ceremony held at the Bosome Freho District Assembly premises at Asiwa, where beneficiaries received various livelihood empowerment items under the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) allocation for persons with disabilities. Addressing the gathering, the DCE urged PWDs to make full use of the equipment to enhance their income-generating activities rather than resorting to selling them off for immediate gain.
He explained that government continues to invest in disability support programmes to promote inclusion, dignity, and long-term economic empowerment, hence the need for beneficiaries to demonstrate responsibility and commitment by utilising the items judiciously. According to him, such interventions are designed to reduce poverty among persons with disabilities and minimize the practice of street begging.

Hon. Appiah-Kubi further encouraged the beneficiaries to acquaint themselves with the opportunities available under their share of the District Assembly Common Fund. He assured them that the government remains committed to sustaining social support systems aimed at raising their quality of life and enabling them to contribute meaningfully to the district’s development.
Describing the initiative as commendable, the DCE called on all stakeholders, traditional authorities, and community members to support persons with disabilities to utilise their start-up tools productively to achieve long-term financial independence. He stressed that proper use of the equipment will not only benefit the individuals involved but will also reflect positively on the district’s broader development agenda.

The District Director of Social Welfare and Community Development, Mr. Frank Konadu Asare, also addressed the beneficiaries, reiterating that disability should be viewed as an integral part of community diversity. He appealed to families and society to offer the needed support to PWDs, ensuring that they thrive within the district.
Mr. Konadu advised the beneficiaries—made up of thirty-three (33) individuals—to take full advantage of the support being offered, describing it as a rare, one-time opportunity. He urged them to put the equipment to good use, as more beneficiaries are expected to be considered in future allocations.

He highlighted the importance of gratitude, responsibility, and commitment, stressing that proper utilisation of the tools will justify future government investments in disability empowerment programmes.

The ceremony ended with a renewed call for collective support, responsible use of resources, and a commitment toward building a community where persons with disabilities are empowered, independent, and fully integrated into the socio-economic fabric of Bosome Freho District.
