Bosome Freho DCE Urges President Mahama to Establish Additional Senior High School in District

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Bosome Freho, Hon. Charles Appiah Kubi, has made a passionate appeal to the government led by President John Dramani Mahama to consider the establishment of an additional senior high school in the district to help expand access to secondary education and reduce the burden on the existing institution.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with the media at his office in Asiwa, Hon. Appiah Kubi expressed deep concern over the growing number of junior high school graduates in the district who struggle to secure placement due to the limited space in the district’s only senior high school. “Bosome Freho has only one senior high school serving the entire district, and the pressure on it is overwhelming. Every year, we see hundreds of qualified students unable to continue their education simply because there is no space,” the DCE lamented.
He emphasized that the growing population of schoolchildren in the area requires urgent intervention by the central government to ensure that every child has a fair opportunity to access quality education at the second-cycle level.
Hon. Appiah Kubi revealed that during President Mahama’s first tenure in office, there were plans to expand educational infrastructure in the district, but unfortunately, those plans could not materialize due to a change in government. “There was a clear intention by President Mahama during his first term to improve educational access in Bosome Freho. Sadly, that vision was cut short when power changed hands. Now that he is back in office, I am pleading with him to revisit that commitment and help us get an additional senior high school,” he appealed.
The DCE stressed that the establishment of a second senior high school in the district would not only increase enrolment capacity but also reduce pressure on the current institution, improve teacher-to-student ratios, and bring secondary education closer to communities that are currently underserved. “We need a second SHS to complement the efforts of the existing school. It will help ease congestion, improve academic performance, and reduce dropout rates among students who are otherwise forced to stay home because of lack of space,” he added.
Hon. Appiah Kubi assured the government of the Assembly’s readiness to support the project by making land and necessary local resources available to facilitate the construction and operationalization of a new senior high school.
He also reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to prioritizing education as a key pillar of development in Bosome Freho, pledging to continue working with the Ministry of Education and other stakeholders to improve educational outcomes in the district.
Community members, traditional authorities, and educators across Bosome Freho have welcomed the DCE’s appeal, describing it as timely and necessary. They expressed hope that the current government, through its Reset and Rebuild Ghana agenda under President Mahama, will act swiftly to address the longstanding infrastructure gap in the district’s education sector.
