Bono GPRTU Warns Drivers to Comply with 15% Fare Reduction

The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) in the Bono Region has issued a stern warning to drivers to comply with the recently announced 15% reduction in transport fares.

Justice Kwame Frimpong, Bono Regional Vice Chairman of GPRTU, emphasized that drivers who fail to adhere to the new fare structure will face sanctions.

The public has been encouraged to report any instances of non-compliance to the GPRTU offices or the police.

This directive is backed by key transport unions, including the GPRTU and the Sunyani East Municipal Assembly, following recent fuel price cuts and consultations between transport unions and stakeholders.

In an exclusive interview Kaakyire Kwasi Afari of Sunyani-based Ark fm, the Bono GPRTU vice chairman, Mr. Kwame Frimpong revealed that the new fares have been communicated to drivers, who are expected to comply.

The Bono Regional GPRTU hopes that the appreciation of the cedi and fuel reduction will persist, enabling further fare reductions.

Mr. Frimpong noted that the stabilization of the cedi and fuel price reduction brings significant relief, considering previous hikes.

The Union calls for sustainable measures to stabilize and reduce prices of goods and services.

However, he told Kaakyire Kwasi Afari that while stationed drivers are likely to comply with the new directives, unstationed drivers might be more prone to flouting the laws.

He therefore called on passengers to report any instances of non-compliance to the police, ensuring that the new fare structure is enforced fairly and consistently.

The warning comes after the release of documents containing new transport fares for intercity and long-distance routes from Sunyani to various destinations.
