Black Stars players will make us strong if they join – Black Meteors coach

Black Meteors head coach Ibrahim Tanko is counting on the invited Black Stars players to make his team stronger as they prepare for the upcoming U-23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) to be held in Morocco later this month.

As part of the team’s preparations, Ghana were held to a 1-1 draw against Egypt at the Alexandria Stadium in the first of their two planned pre-tournament friendly.

Daniel Afriyie Barnieh put the team in front from a spot kick following a foul won by Issahaku in the early moments of the game.

But the Egyptians restored parity later on despite missing a penalty of their own earlier.

Tanko expressed his satisfaction with the way his side faired commending them for holding on until full-time despite finishing with a man down.

He emphasised that the likes of Ernest Nuamah, Kamaldeen Sulemana and Ransford-Yeboah who are currently training with the Black Stars ahead of their AFCON qualifier against Madagascar will bring improvement to the U-23 side.

“I think those who played did very well. We are still waiting for those who are with the senior national team. That will make us very strong again. But I’m very impressed with the performance today. To secure a 1-1 draw while playing with a man down from around the 70th minute is commendable. We are very happy,” he said after the game.

The team will play one more match before leaving for Morocco for the tournament.
