Billions Lost!” – Bekwai GPRTU Chairman Alleges Forceful Seizure of Bus Terminal Land, Appeals to President and Otumfuo
Mr. Charles Osei Agyemang, Chairman of the Bekwai branch of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), has raised the alarm over the alleged forceful seizure of a bus terminal he legally acquired and developed since 2012. He claims the Bekwai Municipal Assembly, under the current NDC administration, has destroyed billions of cedis’ worth of his investments, all in the name of building a party office.

According to Mr. Agyemang, the land was initially allocated by the Municipal Assembly to establish a bus terminal to ease traffic congestion in Bekwai. Over the years, he invested heavily to create a modern transport facility serving both commuters and transport operators.

“This land was granted to me for the benefit of the municipality. To have it forcefully taken and my investments destroyed is unacceptable. I am therefore appealing to President John Dramani Mahama, the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and other national leaders to intervene,” Mr. Agyemang stated emphatically.

The development has sent shockwaves among local transport operators and residents who depend on the facility for daily operations. Calls have intensified for urgent and transparent intervention to protect property rights and prevent politically motivated land disputes.
Efforts to obtain comments from the Bekwai Municipal Assembly and NDC representatives were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.

This case highlights the pressing need for strict adherence to legal frameworks in public land allocation, especially where private investments intersect with municipal development projects.
