The District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Ahafo Ano South West District, Hon. Abubakar Sedik, has donated GH₵10,000 to support a victim of a recent fire outbreak at Betoum, in a compassionate gesture aimed at helping the affected family recover from the devastating incident.

The fire outbreak, which occurred on Wednesday, March 10, 2026, destroyed a room in a residential building, leaving the occupant, Mr. Kweku Gyedu, and his family devastated after their personal belongings and household items were completely burnt.

During a brief visit to the community to present the financial support, Hon. Sedik expressed his deepest sympathy to the victim and his family, describing the incident as unfortunate and heartbreaking. He assured residents that the district assembly remains committed to supporting individuals and families affected by disasters within the district.

According to the DCE, the donation was intended to provide immediate relief and help Mr. Gyedu begin the process of rebuilding the damaged structure and restoring stability to his family following the tragic loss.

Hon. Sedik further emphasized the importance of community solidarity during difficult moments, noting that the assembly would continue to extend assistance to vulnerable residents whenever the need arises. He encouraged the victim to remain hopeful and assured him that the district authorities would continue to monitor the situation until normalcy is restored.

In addition to the financial support, the DCE also facilitated temporary accommodation for Mr. Gyedu and his family to ensure they have a safe place to stay while efforts are made to reconstruct the burnt room.

Receiving the donation, Mr. Gyedu expressed profound gratitude to Hon. Sedik for the timely intervention, describing the gesture as a great relief to his family at a time when they were facing enormous hardship.

He explained that the fire had destroyed virtually everything they owned, leaving them uncertain about how to start over. According to him, the financial support would go a long way in helping him rebuild the damaged structure and gradually restore his family’s livelihood.

Meanwhile, the Assembly Member for the Betoum Electoral Area, Hon. Paul Kwesi Amegboe, used the occasion to appeal to the District Chief Executive and the district assembly to facilitate the deployment of personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service to Mankranso to occupy the completed fire station in the area.

He explained that although the fire station at Mankranso had been completed, the absence of personnel had delayed its operationalization, leaving many communities within the district vulnerable in the event of fire outbreaks.

Hon. Amegboe stressed that the presence of fire service officers in the area would significantly improve emergency response times and help safeguard lives and property across the district.

Residents who gathered at the scene commended Hon. Sedik for his swift intervention and consistent commitment to supporting people facing difficult situations within the district.

Many of them described the gesture as a demonstration of responsive leadership and expressed hope that the call for the deployment of fire service personnel to Mankranso would be given urgent attention to prevent future disasters.
