Benito Mining and Engineering Company Limited CEO Urges Government, Philanthropists to Fund Youth Skills Training

The Chief Executive Officer of Benito Mining and Engineering Company Limited, Mr. Benjamin Oppong, popularly known as Benito, has appealed to the government and philanthropists to provide adequate financial support to young people to enable them to acquire vocational and technical skills.

According to Mr. Oppong, the widely held perception that Ghanaian youth are unwilling to learn skills is misleading and unfair. He explained that many young people across the country are eager to undergo skills training but are unable to do so due to financial constraints, which hinder their ability to enroll in and complete such programmes.

He noted that the challenges confronting aspiring trainees go beyond the payment of tuition fees. In many instances, basic necessities such as food, accommodation and transportation become serious obstacles, forcing some youth to abandon their training despite their strong desire to learn a trade.

Mr. Oppong stressed that investing in youth skills training remains one of the most effective ways to address unemployment and reduce social vices in the country. He therefore urged the government, corporate institutions and well-meaning individuals to prioritize funding for skills development as a sustainable and long-term solution to youth unemployment.

He further encouraged young people to embrace vocational and technical skills training, describing it as a reliable pathway to self-employment, economic empowerment and national development.
