The Member of Parliament (MP) for Bekwai Constituency in the Ashanti Region, Hon. Lawyer Ralph Opoku Adusei, has reaffirmed his commitment to education and the future of young people in his constituency by extending vital support to beneficiaries of the government’s flagship Free Senior High School (SHS) program.

At a colourful ceremony in Bekwai, the legislator presented 100 student mattresses, 100 trunks, and 100 chalk boxes to the top 100 students who excelled in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and secured admission into various senior high schools nationwide.

Hon. Adusei explained that the initiative seeks to ease the burden on parents, many of whom struggle to provide the essential logistics required when their wards gain admission to SHS.

Speaking on behalf of the MP, the Bekwai Constituency Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Alex Arko Addae-Darkwah, said the gesture underscores the MP’s determination to ensure that no child in Bekwai is deprived of education due to financial constraints. He stressed that Hon. Adusei remains resolute in complementing the government’s Free SHS policy by offering additional assistance to students and their families. “This support is to ease the stress of parents and to encourage the beneficiaries to take their studies seriously. Hon. Adusei believes that when our children are given the right foundation, they can rise to become future leaders who will contribute meaningfully to the development of Bekwai and Ghana at large,” Mr. Addae-Darkwah emphasized.

The Municipal Director of Education, madam Liticia Obeng who graced the occasion, commended the MP for his proactive intervention in education. She urged parents to collaborate with teachers and school authorities to provide the necessary guidance and supervision for their wards. She further noted that such initiatives strengthen the successful implementation of the Free SHS program by bridging resource gaps that government alone cannot close.

Parents and beneficiaries expressed heartfelt gratitude for the timely support. Many described the donation as a huge relief, given the financial demands associated with preparing children for SHS.

One elated parent remarked: “We are very grateful to our MP. The mattresses and trunks are things every SHS student needs. This has saved us a lot of money and stress. May God bless Hon. Adusei for thinking about us and our children.”

The students, visibly excited, pledged to work hard and excel in their studies to justify the investment made in them, promising to make their families, community, and constituency proud.

The event concluded with community leaders, parents, and party executives applauding Hon. Ralph Opoku Adusei for his consistent prioritization of education. His intervention has not only boosted the morale of fresh SHS students but has also reaffirmed the government’s vision of making education accessible to every Ghanaian child through the Free SHS program.
