Be Peace Ambassadors” – COKA Challenges Female Journalists

Former Afigya Kwabre South Constituency Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, popularly known as COKA, has called on female journalists to leverage their platforms to promote peace, unity, and national cohesion.

COKA made this call during his maiden media engagement with selected female show hosts, producers, reporters, and editors in the Ashanti Region on Saturday, August 30, 2025. The meeting, according to him, was designed to encourage female journalists to use their influence positively, especially in an era where media content shapes public opinion and national discourse.

“Whether it’s your region or not, conflict anywhere affects everyone. That’s why you must become peace ambassadors,” COKA emphasized, urging female journalists to prioritize responsible reporting that unites rather than divides.

Promoting the Role of Women in Journalism

Highlighting the significant contributions of women to national development, COKA revealed that during his time as constituency chairman, he deliberately appointed women to leadership roles to empower them. He noted that female journalists often receive less recognition than their male counterparts and stressed that his engagement was aimed at correcting that imbalance.

“This meeting is a step toward ensuring women thrive in the media space. Women have always played critical roles in society, and it is important that we acknowledge their work in journalism,” he said.

Encouraging Professional Growth

The NPP stalwart also urged journalists who are not members of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) to consider joining for professional support, networking, and protection in their careers.

“Being part of a professional association not only shapes your work but also provides support and protection in your career,” COKA advised.

He further commended the dedication of female journalists to telling compelling stories and influencing public narratives. He encouraged them to maintain professionalism and ethical standards while promoting peace and national development.

Unity in the Media Landscape

COKA expressed optimism that this engagement would strengthen collaboration among female journalists and promote unity within the profession.

“A united front would enable journalists to effectively fulfill their mandate and make a more significant impact on society,” he noted.

He reiterated his belief that women in media have a powerful voice in shaping Ghana’s future and called on them to take up the mantle of peace advocacy with determination.
