A new tracking poll conducted by Global InfoAnalytics has revealed that former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has emerged as the clear frontrunner in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer race ahead of the 2028 general elections.
The survey shows Dr. Bawumia commanding 57 percent of national support, placing him well ahead of his closest challenger, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, the former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, who secured 29 percent. Former Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum followed with six percent, Minister of Food and Agriculture Dr. Bryan Acheampong recorded five percent, while former NPP General Secretary Kwabena Agyapong managed three percent.

In the key swing regions of Greater Accra, Central and Western, Dr. Bawumia also maintained a strong lead with 57 percent, compared to Kennedy Agyapong’s 32 percent. Dr. Adutwum and Dr. Acheampong both registered four percent each, while Kwabena Agyapong obtained three percent. Analysts view this performance in strategic regions as a decisive factor that could give the former Vice President an advantage in a national election.
The poll further revealed that in a direct runoff between Dr. Bawumia and Kennedy Agyapong, the former would widen his lead to 62 percent, leaving Agyapong with 38 percent. This reinforces the notion that Bawumia’s support base is not only solid but also expandable in head-to-head contests.
Among NPP delegates, who will ultimately determine the party’s next flagbearer, Dr. Bawumia again came out on top with 47 percent support. Kennedy Agyapong trailed at 17 percent, followed by Dr. Acheampong at three percent, Dr. Adutwum at one percent, and Kwabena Agyapong also at one percent. However, the survey highlighted that 27 percent of delegates remain undecided, with four percent declining to reveal their choice. This suggests that while Dr. Bawumia currently enjoys a wide margin, the race still has potential to shift depending on campaign strategies and grassroots mobilization.

Political watchers interpret the findings as a reflection of Dr. Bawumia’s growing dominance within the NPP and his increasing acceptance across the broader electorate. His appeal in swing regions, coupled with his resilience in delegate support, positions him as the most likely successor to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as the party’s presidential candidate.
Kennedy Agyapong’s 29 percent, however, indicates that he remains a formidable force, particularly among the party’s grassroots, where his outspoken and populist style continues to resonate. The next phase of internal campaigning is therefore expected to be intense as aspirants work to either consolidate or expand their bases.
With Dr. Bawumia holding a commanding lead yet facing pockets of undecided voters, the Global InfoAnalytics poll underscores a contest that is leaning heavily in his favour but not entirely sealed. The coming months will be pivotal as the candidates intensify their outreach to delegates and the wider NPP membership.
