The President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo and the Vice President, His Excellency Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, are on a two-day tour of the Upper East Region of the country. Today he visited Bolgatanga, Binduri and Bawku Central where he made a very bold statement.
According to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo, he is especially grateful to the Bawku Naba, Asigir Abugrago Azoka II and the people of Bawku Central for the warm reception. He also said that just as he [the Bawku Naba] was direct and frank enough to tell him what their problems are, he will be frank enough too.
Speaking on the December 7, 2020 general elections, the president said that he was highly disappointed in the people of Bawku and of course, the entire Upper East Region for the low number of votes. He said that the votes given to him do not merit the massive work undertaken by his government in the region.
Furthermore, President Akuffo-Addo specifically mentioned that he is working on the Bolgatanga-Bawku road and that his statistics shows that the work is 80 percent complete and promised to complete it to 100 percent before the end of the year. He said that the NDC for whom they voted however abandoned the road.
“During one of my visits to this palace, I promised you, Bawku Naba, that I would reconstruct the Bolgatanga-Bawku road and other major highways and bypasses which I believe are very dear to your heart. The NDC for whom you voted for did not do it, I did it,” President Nana Akuffo-Addo tells the Bawku Naba Asigir Abugrago Azoka II in the face.
He said that government will make sure that all their requests and promises to them alike are fulfilled. He also said that they are working hard to convert the 5 senior high school and technical schools into full boarding schools to help curb the teenage pregnancy menace in the area.
President Nana Akuffo-Addo also commissioned a newly built District Assembly Complex for the Bolgatanga East District. He promised to do more and asked for their full corporation with government even as such more works are being done.
