Atwima Nwabiagya South NDC Afari Branch Leads Clean-Up Exercise at Abandoned Afari Military Hospital
The Afari Branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Constituency has organised a clean-up exercise at the abandoned Afari Military Hospital as part of efforts to draw renewed government attention to the stalled health facility and to advocate for its completion.

The exercise, led by the Afari Branch Executive popularly known as Akwasi NDC, in collaboration with the NDC Youth Organiser, Hon. Maxwell Acheampong, brought together party members and community volunteers who cleared overgrown weeds and bushes that had engulfed the hospital premises.

Addressing participants after the exercise, Hon. Maxwell Acheampong stressed the importance of communal clean-up activities, particularly in areas where abandoned public projects pose environmental and health risks. He noted that the Afari Military Hospital was initiated by previous administrations with the aim of improving access to healthcare for residents of Afari and surrounding communities, but has regrettably remained incomplete for years.

According to him, the neglect of the facility not only undermines healthcare delivery in the area but also exposes the abandoned structure to deterioration and misuse. He therefore appealed strongly to the government to prioritise the completion of the hospital to serve its intended purpose. Hon. Acheampong expressed optimism that with sustained advocacy and public pressure, the project would soon receive the needed attention and be completed for the benefit of the people.

For his part, Akwasi Prince, also known as Akwasi NDC, described the clean-up exercise as a community-driven initiative aimed at reminding the government of its responsibility to the people of Afari. He explained that the hospital environment had become heavily overgrown, creating safety concerns and diminishing the value of an important public investment.

He indicated that the branch deliberately chose the abandoned hospital site to symbolically highlight the long-standing neglect of the project and to send a clear message that the community is eager to see meaningful development, particularly in the area of healthcare infrastructure.
Residents who observed the exercise expressed hope that the action by the NDC Afari Branch would reignite discussions at the national level and lead to concrete steps towards completing the Afari Military Hospital, which is expected to serve not only Afari but several neighbouring communities within the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality.
