The Member of Parliament for Atwima Mponua, Seth Osei Akoto, has officially cut sod for the construction of an ultramodern police station at Kotokum in the Ashanti Region, in a decisive move aimed at addressing growing security concerns and enhancing policing services in the area.

The project, which is expected to significantly improve law enforcement capacity, forms part of the MP’s broader commitment to strengthening community safety and promoting local development across the constituency. Speaking at a brief but significant ceremony held at the Kotokum Community Centre, Hon. Osei Akoto emphasized that the initiative fulfills a key promise he made to constituents ahead of the 2024 general elections.
According to the MP, the new police facility will be fully equipped with modern infrastructure to support effective policing. The station will include a charge office, Criminal Investigations Department (CID) office, an armoury, separate detention cells for males, females, and juveniles, as well as washrooms, offices, and rest areas for personnel. These features, he noted, are designed to ensure efficiency, professionalism, and improved service delivery by security officers.

Residents of Kotokum and surrounding communities used the occasion to voice their growing concerns over insecurity, particularly the increasing incidents of armed robbery targeting commuters during nighttime travel. Many expressed optimism that the establishment of a police station within the community would serve as a strong deterrent to criminal activities and restore a sense of safety.
Addressing the media, Hon. Osei Akoto acknowledged the severity of the situation, noting that the rise in farming and small-scale mining activities in the area has inadvertently attracted criminal elements. He described the current security challenges as a major threat to livelihoods and economic progress, stressing that the police station would serve approximately 18 communities within the enclave.
He further disclosed that funding support for the project will be drawn from the MP’s Common Fund allocation. In line with his vision of inclusive development, he directed the contractor to prioritize the engagement of skilled local labour throughout the construction phase to create employment opportunities for residents.

The Odikro of Kotokum, Nana Kofi Agyeman Badu II, in his remarks, commended the MP for the initiative but also highlighted other pressing developmental challenges confronting the community. He appealed for government intervention in the provision of potable drinking water, improved telecommunications network, reliable street lighting, and functional electricity transformers.
Nana Agyeman Badu II assured both the Member of Parliament and the contractor of the community’s full support for the successful execution of the project. He encouraged continuous collaboration and urged the project team to feel free to seek local assistance whenever necessary.

The construction of the Kotokum Police Station is widely seen as a timely intervention that will not only strengthen security but also contribute to socio-economic growth in the Atwima Mponua District. Residents remain hopeful that the project will be completed on schedule and deliver lasting benefits to the area.
