Hon. Seth Osei Akoto, the Member of Parliament for Atwima Mponua Constituency, has paid a solemn visit to the Nyinahin Government Hospital to commiserate with the families of victims involved in a violent clash between military personnel and some youth of Nyinahin. The incident, which occurred earlier this week, left one person dead and two others injured, sparking shock and grief across the constituency.
According to eyewitness accounts, the confrontation took place when a group of youth were heading to the cemetery to bury a deceased friend. A military vehicle with registration number 73 GA 39 reportedly opened fire on the mourners under circumstances that remain unclear. The shooting resulted in the tragic death of 36-year-old Kofi Owusu, popularly known in the community as “Juve.” Two others, Kofi Agyapong, aged 44, and Alfred Kwarteng, aged 24, sustained injuries and were rushed to the Nyinahin Government Hospital for emergency medical attention.
During his visit, Hon. Osei Akoto met with the families of the victims, hospital officials, and some of the community leaders to express his heartfelt condolences and pledge his support. He assured the bereaved family of “Juve” that he would follow up with the relevant security authorities to ensure that a thorough investigation is conducted to bring justice and clarity to the disturbing incident.
“I am deeply saddened by this unfortunate event. No community deserves to go through such pain, especially in the middle of mourning a loved one,” the MP stated. “We will not rest until we understand what led to this tragic loss of life. The people of Nyinahin deserve answers and peace.”
Hon. Osei Akoto also checked on the condition of the injured victims. He was informed by medical staff that while Kofi Agyapong is still receiving treatment, Alfred Kwarteng has been treated and discharged.
He used the opportunity to call for calm within the community, urging residents not to take the law into their own hands while investigations are ongoing. He further appealed to the Ghana Armed Forces and the Ghana Police Service to expedite the process and keep the community informed.
The MP’s visit has been widely praised by residents as a timely show of leadership and compassion, especially at a moment when community trust and security are under serious strain.
As tension continues to simmer in Nyinahin following the tragic event, calls are growing louder for greater accountability and improved relations between security forces and civilians to prevent such incidents in the future.
