The District Chief Executive for Atwima Kwanwoma, Grace Agyemang Asamoah, has commended a promising young athlete, Blessed Owusu, for his outstanding performance in the recently concluded Senior High School Athletics Competition, describing his achievement as a source of pride for the district.

The commendation came when Blessed Owusu, a first-year student of St. Hubert Seminary Senior High School, paid a courtesy call on the DCE alongside school authorities to present a trophy won during the competition. The young athlete distinguished himself by emerging overall best, having won the 100 metres, 200 metres, and 400 metres events in impressive fashion.

The 15-year-old sprint sensation, who hails from Atwima Yabi, further demonstrated his growing prowess on the national stage by placing second in the highly competitive “Champion of Champions” contest held in Cape Coast. His exceptional performance has since earned him selection to represent Ghana at the upcoming World U-20 Championships in the United States of America.

Addressing the delegation, Hon. Agyemang Asamoah congratulated the young athlete for his discipline, determination, and dedication to excellence. She encouraged him to remain humble and focused, stressing the importance of strong moral values, spiritual guidance, and academic commitment as he pursues his sporting career.

“You have made Atwima Kwanwoma proud, and we believe this is only the beginning of greater achievements,” she noted. “As you prepare to represent Ghana on the international stage, remain disciplined and continue to strive for excellence both in sports and in your studies.”

In a show of support, the DCE pledged the Assembly’s readiness to assist the young athlete in his preparations for the global competition. She further presented him with a cash reward of GH₵2,000 in recognition of his remarkable achievements and for bringing honour to the district.

Earlier, the Headmaster of the school, Eric Kyei, expressed appreciation to the Assembly for its continuous support and appealed for further assistance to enhance sports development in the school. He specifically requested the provision of a DRIP machine to help improve the school’s athletics track, noting that better training facilities would significantly boost the performance of student-athletes.

The delegation was led by the Rector, Rev. Fr. Henry Mensah, and included the Headmaster, two sports officers, and the athlete. They were warmly received by the DCE and members of the Assembly’s management, marking a moment of pride and encouragement for youth development and sporting excellence within the district.
