Atwima Kwanwoma Assembly Members Stand Firm Behind Coordinating Director Amidst Allegations of Stolen Assembly Items

The Atwima Kwanwoma District Assembly in the Ashanti Region is embroiled in controversy after allegations surfaced regarding the theft of assembly items. At the center of the storm is the District Coordinating Director, Madam Eunice Korankye, who has been accused by some factions within the constituency of being involved in the misappropriation of assembly property.

However, assembly members have rallied behind Madam Korankye, denouncing the accusations and condemning the unlawful actions of the NDC Chairman and Youth Organizer, who entered the Coordinating Director’s residence to seize assembly items. The assembly members expressed their displeasure over this incident and publicly defended the integrity of both the Coordinating Director and the assembly.

In a press conference, the Presiding Member of the Atwima Kwanwoma District Assembly, Hon. Anthony Kwame Nsiah, explained the situation. He stated that, since 2017, the assembly had made arrangements to store essential items—such as street bulbs, fertilizers, warranty boots, and other necessary materials—at the Coordinating Director’s residence. This was due to a lack of sufficient storage space at the assembly’s office. The practice had been in place since the tenure of the former Coordinating Director and had continued under the current leadership of Madam Eunice Korankye, with full knowledge and agreement from the assembly members.

However, the assembly members were stunned when Mr. Solomon Alonga, the NDC Chairman, along with the Youth Organizer, unlawfully entered the Coordinating Director’s home. With the help of police officers, they seized the assembly’s property without obtaining prior permission from the director or informing the assembly.

Hon. Nsiah strongly condemned the actions of the NDC Chairman and Youth Organizer, calling their behavior disgraceful and harmful to the reputation of the assembly. He accused them of spreading false claims, suggesting that Madam Korankye and the assembly members were involved in theft, which he deemed to be completely baseless and damaging to their credibility.

“We find this action by the NDC Chairman and Youth Organizer not only unlawful but also an attack on the integrity of the Atwima Kwanwoma District Assembly and the Coordinating Director. These claims of theft are entirely unfounded,” Hon. Nsiah said, urging the public to disregard the false accusations being spread by the NDC leadership.

In interviews with several other assembly members, they expressed their frustration with the NDC’s actions and emphasized that they would not support any nominee for the position of District Chief Executive (DCE) unless the NDC leadership publicly apologized to Madam Korankye and the assembly members. They stressed that an apology was necessary to restore peace and trust in the district’s governance and to resolve the ongoing tensions.

The assembly members also urged the public to remain vigilant and reject any further misleading statements from the NDC, reaffirming their commitment to upholding the integrity of the Atwima Kwanwoma District Assembly. They vowed to continue working for the welfare and progress of the district, despite the ongoing controversy.

As tensions remain high in the district, all eyes are now on the NDC leadership to see whether they will retract their claims and issue the apology demanded by the assembly members. The outcome of this dispute could have significant implications for the district’s leadership and the future of the assembly’s operations.
