Atonsu Bokro Widows Pray for God’s Blessings on Dr. Michael Acheampong After Historic Donation

In an extraordinary gesture of generosity that has left a lasting mark on the Atonsu Bokro community, a U.S.-based Ghanaian philanthropist and health practitioner, Dr. Michael Acheampong, has donated assorted food items, including Frytol cooking oil, sardines, spaghetti, rice, and other essentials, to 125 widows in the Asokwa Constituency of the Ashanti Region. This marked the first-ever widow-focused donation in the history of Atonsu Bokro.

The donation exercise, which took place on Saturday, December 27, 2025, brought relief and joy to the beneficiaries, many of whom described the initiative as timely and life-changing during the festive season, a period often fraught with financial and emotional challenges.

Each widow received a well-packaged food hamper containing a 5kg bag of rice, Frytol cooking oil, sardines, spaghetti, and other basic necessities. Beneficiaries noted that such a level of support was unprecedented in the community and described it as one of the most significant social interventions ever extended to widows in Atonsu Bokro.

The atmosphere at the donation grounds was emotional as the widows expressed their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Michael Acheampong. Many were visibly moved, with some shedding tears as they recounted the daily struggles they face in providing for themselves and their families. The widows prayed for God’s protection, good health, and the fulfilment of Dr. Acheampong’s heart’s desires, acknowledging his historic contribution as one that had rewritten their Christmas story.

Speaking to the media, Dr. Acheampong said the initiative was motivated by compassion and a desire to support widows, whom he described as one of the most vulnerable and neglected groups in society. He explained that while he has consistently organized annual youth engagement programmes, this year’s Christmas inspired him to focus on widows.

“Widowhood is not easy. Many of these women struggle daily to feed their children and meet basic needs. I wanted them to feel loved this Christmas and to know that they have not been forgotten,” he said.

Dr. Acheampong revealed that he was born and raised in Atonsu Bokro, where he completed his basic and secondary education before travelling to the United States for further studies and professional training. According to him, his deep connection to the community continues to drive his commitment to giving back.

He pledged to sustain and, where possible, expand his philanthropic activities in Atonsu Bokro and other communities, while praying for good health, long life, and increased resources to continue supporting widows and other vulnerable groups.

The Assemblyman for the Atonsu Bokro Electoral Area, Hon. Owusu Brempong Akwaboa, commended Dr. Acheampong for what he described as a timely and impactful intervention. He noted that the donation had brought relief to both the widows and community leadership, explaining that many widows had approached him for support during the Christmas season.

“This donation has really eased the pressure on us as leaders, especially during Christmas when many vulnerable people seek assistance. It has come as a huge relief,” he said. Hon. Akwaboa further appealed to government and parliamentarians to institute structured social support systems for widows, similar to existing interventions for persons with disabilities, noting that widows remain highly vulnerable and largely unsupported in society.

Also present at the event, Rev. Benjamin Fosu Nkrumah, Asokwa NPP Constituency Chairman, praised Dr. Acheampong for extending support to widows and widowers in the area. He called on other stakeholders and well-meaning individuals to emulate the gesture and support the less privileged. Rev. Nkrumah further urged children of widows to care for their mothers and prioritize their welfare rather than subject them to neglect or harmful accusations.

As news of the donation spread across the community, residents lauded Dr. Acheampong as a true son of the land whose generosity had brought pride to Atonsu Bokro. The widows, in turn, prayed fervently for God’s abundant blessings, protection, good health, and the fulfillment of his heart’s desires, celebrating him for his historic and transformative Christmas gesture.
