Assemblyman Shoots and Kills Two Suspected Cocoa Thieves

In a tragic incident in the Upper Denkyira East Municipality, Kwabena Boateng, the Assemblyman for Denkyira Kyekyewere, has shot and killed two individuals suspected of stealing from his cocoa shed. The incident occurred around 2:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 21.

According to sources from Citi News, the deceased suspects, 16-year-old Razak and 20-year-old Agyaku, were reportedly involved in multiple thefts from Boateng’s cocoa shed over an extended period. Despite numerous reports made to the police about the recurring thefts, the situation persisted, resulting in the loss of 35 bags of cocoa.

On the night of the shooting, Boateng allegedly caught the suspects in the act of stealing from his shed once again. In response, he reportedly fired at the suspects, leading to their immediate deaths.

The families of the deceased are expressing profound shock and grief over the incident. The mother of one of the suspects, who had been previously admonishing her son for his behavior, shared her distress. “He is my son, and he is learning a trade. His boss called, asking him to return to work since he had not been attending for a while. I even cursed him and later took it back for not heeding my advice. The Agyaku guy was a bad influence on my son. They even stole from a queen mother,” she lamented.

The incident has sparked significant debate and concern within the community, highlighting issues surrounding vigilante justice and the legal response to theft. The  police have yet to release an official statement on the case, and further investigations are anticipated.
