Ashanti TVET Students Shine at First-Ever Fashion Fantasy and Beauty Pageant at KNUST

The Ghana Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Service has made history by hosting its first-ever Fashion Fantasy Show and Beauty Pageant at the Great Hall of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). The two-day programme, organized in partnership with the Faculty of Art at KNUST and Kumasi Technical University (KsTU), brought together talented students from TVET institutions across the Ashanti Region under the theme “Unleashing Potentials and Creativity.”

The event provided students with a lively platform to demonstrate their creativity in fashion, design, and artistic expression. More than a competition, it served as a celebration of innovation and practical skills, highlighting how TVET education can equip young people to build careers and contribute to national development.

Dr. Kwabena Asubonteng from KNUST’s Fashion Department stressed the transformative power of vocational and technical education. He noted that while traditional academic schools continue to play an important role, TVET offers the practical skills and opportunities needed to reduce unemployment and unlock the creative potential of Ghana’s youth.

Speaking to parents and guardians, Dr. Asubonteng encouraged them to support their children, particularly BECE candidates, in exploring TVET pathways. “Many young people have talents that need nurturing. Left undeveloped, these gifts fade, but when guided and polished, they can become lifelong careers and open doors to success,” he said, adding that students should combine dedication, learning, and faith to reach their full potential.

Engineer Richard Addo Gyamfi, Ashanti Regional Director of TVET Service, described the fashion fantasy show as a valuable platform for building confidence, encouraging entrepreneurship, and preparing students for real-world opportunities. He announced that the top three winning schools would each receive industrial and electric sewing machines to help students start businesses and apply their skills practically.

He also expressed gratitude to the Faculty of Art at KNUST and KsTU for their continuous support and urged private companies to collaborate with TVET institutions to expand resources and opportunities. He further encouraged media houses in the Ashanti Region to provide consistent coverage of TVET activities, emphasizing that visibility is key to reshaping perceptions about technical and vocational education.

The event drew large crowds, including students, parents, teachers, and education stakeholders, and was hailed as a milestone for TVET in Ghana. Observers noted that the programme successfully showcased the creativity and potential of young people, proving that vocational and technical education is not only a pathway to skills but also a gateway to employment, entrepreneurship, and national development.
