Ashanti South Regional Police Roll Out 24-Hour Residential Patrols Ahead of New Year Celebrations

As the year 2025 draws to a close, the Ashanti South Regional Police Command has rolled out intensified 24-hour residential and community patrols across the region as part of measures to ensure a peaceful and crime-free transition into the New Year.

The enhanced security operation is a proactive response to the heightened movement of people and activities that characterise the festive season, including travels, social gatherings and religious programmes, particularly 31st Watch Night services. The initiative is aimed at safeguarding lives and property while preventing criminal activities that often spike during such periods.

Speaking at a press briefing held at Ashanti Bekwai on behalf of the Ashanti South Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police Joseph Hammond Nyaaba, the Ashanti South Police Public Affairs Officer, Assistant Commissioner of Police Cephas Arthur, explained that the patrols form part of a broader security strategy designed to deter crime and boost public confidence in the Ghana Police Service.

According to ACP Cephas Arthur, the Police have deployed both foot and mobile patrol teams to operate around the clock, with special attention being given to residential areas, major streets, highways and identified crime-prone locations within the region. He noted that the visible police presence is intended to discourage criminal elements and ensure swift response to any security threats.

He urged members of the public to complement police efforts by remaining vigilant and taking basic personal and property security precautions. ACP Cephas Arthur particularly advised Christians attending 31st Watch Night church services to ensure their homes are securely locked before leaving, avoid carrying large sums of money and cooperate fully with security personnel deployed to various worship centres.

ACP Cephas Arthur also issued a strong warning to criminals and individuals contemplating robbery, theft or any other unlawful activities during the festive period, stressing that the Police Command has made adequate security arrangements and will deal decisively with anyone who attempts to disrupt the peace.

He assured residents that the Ghana Police Service remains committed to its constitutional mandate of protecting lives and property and will enforce the law without fear or favour. He further encouraged the public to promptly report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through established emergency communication channels.

The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has therefore appealed to residents to cooperate with law enforcement agencies to ensure that the year ends peacefully and that the New Year begins in a safe and secure environment for all.
