The Ghana Police Service, through the Ashanti South Regional Police Command, has successfully dismantled suspected criminal hideouts in a major intelligence-led operation, leading to the arrest of three alleged members of a robbery syndicate and the retrieval of firearms, ammunition and cash believed to be proceeds of crime.
The operation, carried out on February 15, 2026, targeted identified hideouts at Mangoase near Pokukrom within the Obuasi enclave. Acting on credible intelligence, police officers executed a coordinated raid aimed at disrupting the activities of a group suspected to have been terrorising residents and commuters in parts of the Ashanti Region.
The suspects have been identified as Aziz Abubakar, also known as Romeo, Faraway Amari, and Patient Asare. They were arrested during the operation and are currently in police custody assisting with investigations.
A thorough search of the premises led to the retrieval of a pump-action gun with ammunition, machetes, a bayonet, combat boots, one 9mm round of ammunition, and a sum of GH¢20,000.00 in cash. Police sources indicate that the money is suspected to be proceeds from robbery operations allegedly carried out by the group.
Preliminary investigations have further linked two of the suspects to a triple homicide incident at Breme near Bechem in the Bono Region in March 2025. Investigators are working to establish the full extent of their involvement in that case and other criminal activities across jurisdictions.
The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has indicated that efforts are underway to track down additional accomplices believed to be part of the wider network, as well as to recover more weapons that may be in circulation.
The Command has reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying intelligence-driven operations to combat armed robbery and violent crime within the region. Residents have been encouraged to remain vigilant and provide timely and credible information to the police to support ongoing security efforts.
The latest breakthrough underscores the continued resolve of the Ghana Police Service to safeguard lives and property and to ensure that individuals engaged in criminal activities are brought to justice.
