The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with a robbery and murder incident that claimed the life of a 20-year-old man, Kofi Mensah, at Tweapease-Aboo in the Ashanti Region. The arrests mark a major breakthrough in the Command’s relentless fight against violent crimes in the region.

The suspects, identified as Solomon Opoku and Collins Aboagye, were arrested after sustained intelligence-led operations conducted by the Police with support from local informants. Their arrest followed a report lodged with the Bediem District Police Command on October 6, 2025, by the Assembly Member for the area, Hon. Francis Appiah, who indicated that the young man had been attacked, killed, and his Haojin motorbike stolen by unidentified assailants.
Acting swiftly on the report, Police investigators launched a detailed intelligence operation that led to the arrest of suspect Solomon Opoku at Council Quarters in Obuasi on October 10, 2025. He was apprehended while attempting to sell the stolen motorbike believed to have belonged to the deceased. Upon further interrogation and analysis of intelligence gathered, the Police traced and arrested his accomplice, Collins Aboagye, at Kokotesua, also a suburb of Obuasi.
According to the Police, both suspects admitted to committing the crime during interrogation, and the stolen motorbike was retrieved as evidence. The suspects are currently in custody and are scheduled to appear before court today, Monday, October 13, 2025, to face charges of robbery and murder.
Addressing the media on behalf of the Ashanti South Regional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Joseph Hammond Nyaaba, the Regional Operations Commander, ACP Cephus Arthur, commended the investigation team for their professionalism and dedication which led to the swift arrest of the suspects. He explained that the successful operation was the result of intelligence collaboration between the Police and members of the local community, emphasizing that public cooperation remains a vital tool in combating crime.
ACP Arthur reassured residents of Tweapease-Aboo and surrounding communities of the Police’s unyielding commitment to ensuring public safety and bringing perpetrators of crime to justice. He noted that the Ashanti South Regional Command continues to strengthen its intelligence and operational strategies to make the region safer for all.
He also used the opportunity to caution the public against acts of instant justice, stressing that such unlawful actions could jeopardize ongoing investigations and undermine the rule of law. According to him, allowing the justice system to operate effectively ensures fairness and prevents innocent individuals from becoming victims of mob attacks.
Cue — ACP Cephus Arthur:
“We want to assure residents that the Police remain committed to protecting lives and property. The swift arrest of the suspects in this case should send a clear message to criminals that the law will always catch up with them. We also caution the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands. Let us all allow due process to work to promote peace, fairness, and stability in our communities.”
The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has therefore reiterated its call for community members to continue supporting the Police with credible information that will aid in the fight against crime. The Command reaffirmed its resolve to pursue justice for victims and ensure that peace and security prevail across all parts of the region.
