Ashanti Regional TVET Directorate Opens Doors for Female Artisans Under ‘Female Talents in Construction’ Initiative

In a bold move to bridge the gender gap in Ghana’s construction industry, the Ashanti Regional Directorate of the Ghana TVET Service has officially launched the “Female Talents in Construction Project”, a groundbreaking initiative designed to empower young women with employable technical skills and create sustainable job opportunities in the construction sector.
The project, implemented in partnership with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) under the Invest for Jobs programme of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), aims to train, certify, and employ young female artisans in various construction-related trades across the Ashanti Region.
Through this initiative, young women aged 15 to 35 years who are passionate about construction or already trained in a technical field will receive practical, industry-based training in diverse trade areas, including Building Construction, Plumbing, Tiling, Electricals/Solar Installation, Woodwork, Welding and Fabrication, Heavy-Duty Operations, and Structural Painting.
According to the Ashanti Regional TVET Director, the project represents a strategic intervention to promote gender inclusion within the technical and vocational training ecosystem. “This programme is not just about training; it is about transforming mindsets. We want our young women to know they can excel in construction, engineering, and other trades traditionally dominated by men,” the Director stated, emphasizing the region’s commitment to empowering female artisans through skills development.
The six-month training package will be divided into two months of intensive classroom instruction followed by four months of practical industrial attachment with reputable construction firms. This dual approach will ensure that participants gain both theoretical knowledge and hands-on field experience, preparing them to meet the needs of Ghana’s fast-evolving construction industry.
Participants who successfully complete the training will receive the prestigious German DIHK–C Certification, a globally recognized credential that enhances employability both locally and internationally. In addition, trainees will benefit from soft skills development in leadership, teamwork, communication, and entrepreneurship — all essential tools for thriving in the world of work.
The programme also encourages current employees of construction companies to apply, offering them the opportunity to upgrade their technical competence and enhance career progression. To qualify, applicants must be residents of the Ashanti Region and possess at least a Certificate II or higher qualification from an accredited TVET or engineering institution.
Applications are now open and can be submitted online at https://forms.gle/CBasMov7sMJGUTFC9. The deadline for applications is November 17, 2025.
Successful candidates will not only benefit from comprehensive training but also enjoy direct employment or industry placement opportunities upon completion. The project, therefore, stands as a beacon of hope for many young women eager to build meaningful careers in technical fields.
The Ashanti Regional TVET Directorate remains resolute in its vision to empower women, strengthen local industries, and contribute to Ghana’s sustainable development through technical education. The “Female Talents in Construction Project” is, therefore, a timely initiative to inspire, skill, and employ the next generation of female builders shaping the nation’s future — one talent at a time.
