Ashanti Regional TUC Engages in Strategic Talks on 24-Hour Economy and National Development

In a crucial dialogue aimed at fostering economic growth and job creation, the Ashanti Regional Trades Union Congress (TUC) met with key stakeholders to discuss strategies for national development. The discussions focused on strengthening partnerships with the government to successfully implement the 24-hour economy, a visionary initiative designed to boost productivity, create jobs, and enhance Ghana’s economic resilience.

Workers at the Heart of Economic Transformation

During the engagement, the TUC was encouraged to make sector-specific proposals to ensure that workers play a leading role in shaping policies that directly impact their livelihoods. The discussions underscored the need for collaborative policymaking, where labor unions and government institutions work together to build a more inclusive and sustainable economy.

“We must be partners in Ghana’s development—working together to build a nation where economic opportunities are expanded for all,” a speaker emphasized.

Prioritizing Fiscal Discipline in Governance

Another key issue highlighted during the discussions was the need for modesty in government spending. The dialogue reaffirmed President John Dramani Mahama’s commitment to responsible governance, citing his decision to cut down the budget for Independence Day celebrations as an example of prudent financial management.

The TUC was urged to advocate for a similar cost-effective approach to the upcoming May Day celebrations, ensuring that workers are honored without unnecessary extravagance.

A Call for Partnership and Action

As Ghana embarks on the implementation of the 24-hour economy, the meeting reinforced the importance of public-private collaboration in driving economic transformation. With the active involvement of labor unions, businesses, and government institutions, the initiative aims to maximize productivity across key sectors while ensuring fair labor practices and decent wages.

The engagement concluded with a call for continuous dialogue between the government and labor unions, reinforcing the shared goal of building a stronger, more prosperous Ghana for all citizens.
