Ashanti Regional Police Commander DCOP Emmanuel Teye Cudjoe Vows to Bring Perpetrators of Nyinahin Clash to Justice

The Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Emmanuel Teye Cudjoe, has issued a stern assurance to the people of Nyinahin in the Atwima Mponua District, promising that law enforcement agencies, in collaboration with the military, will identify and apprehend those responsible for the recent violent clash that resulted in the death of one person and injuries to two others.

In his first official visit to the community since assuming his role as the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Cudjoe expressed his deep concern over the tragic incident involving soldiers and the youth of Nyinahin. The clash occurred when a military vehicle, registration number 73 GA 39, came into contact with a group of youth on their way to bury a friend at the local cemetery. The altercation led to the death of Kofi Owusu (36), also known as Juve, who was shot and succumbed to his injuries. Two others, Kofi Agyapong (44) and Alfred Kwarteng (24), sustained gunshot wounds and are currently receiving medical treatment at the Nyinahin Government Hospital.

The incident has shaken the local community, which had previously been peaceful. DCOP Cudjoe, who was appointed to his current position after serving as the Central North Regional Commander, vowed that the police would take swift action to ensure justice for the victims and peace for the community. Speaking at a meeting with the chiefs and elders at the Nyinahin Palace, he emphasized that security forces would leave no stone unturned in identifying the individuals responsible for the violent act.

“The people of Nyinahin deserve peace and security, and we will not rest until those responsible for this tragic incident are brought to justice,” DCOP Cudjoe said. “The police, together with our colleagues in the military, will conduct a thorough investigation to identify the perpetrators and hold them accountable for their actions.”

The clash, which occurred earlier this week, has raised concerns about the growing tensions between the military and civilians in the region. DCOP Cudjoe, however, reassured the residents that his office would work closely with local authorities, community leaders, and other stakeholders to restore stability and ensure that such incidents do not happen again in the future.

“We are committed to fostering peace and maintaining law and order in the Ashanti Region,” he assured. “Our collaboration with the military will be focused on creating a safe and secure environment for all residents of Nyinahin and the entire region.”

The community’s leadership, including the chiefs of Nyinahin, welcomed the police commander’s visit and assurances, expressing their gratitude for the swift response to the crisis. The chief of Nyinahin, Nana Amampene Twum Boateng ll, urged the residents to remain calm and patient as law enforcement agencies carry out their investigation.

The tragic events in Nyinahin have prompted calls from various quarters for better communication and cooperation between the military and civilians, with many urging that such incidents should be handled with greater sensitivity to avoid further escalation of tensions.

As investigations continue, the Ashanti Regional Police Command has promised to keep the public updated on the progress and outcome of the case, stressing that justice will be served for the victims and their families. The people of Nyinahin, who are still in shock over the events, are hopeful that the authorities’ swift response will help restore normalcy to their community.
