The Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Dr. Frank Amoakohene, today led a vigorous clean-up exercise across major parts of Greater Kumasi as part of the ongoing AshantiFest celebration — a regional cultural festival that promotes development, unity, and the rich heritage of the Ashanti people.
The clean-up campaign, themed “Greater Kumasi in Perspective”, witnessed overwhelming community participation, with residents, assembly members, Zoomlion workers, market traders, and local authorities coming together to rid their surroundings of filth and debris.
Dr. Amoakohene actively participated at several key locations including Dr. Mensah, Ala Bar, Pelele, Anloga Junction, Tech Junction, Atonsu Market/High School Junction, Suame, and Tafo. These areas, known for their high human traffic and commercial activity, were targeted as part of efforts to improve sanitation and environmental health within the metropolis.
Speaking during the exercise, the Regional Minister emphasized the importance of cleanliness and the collective responsibility of residents in maintaining a hygienic environment. “AshantiFest is not just a celebration of our culture; it is also a call to action — to improve our communities, strengthen unity, and live responsibly. Cleanliness is a key element of development, and today’s exercise is a demonstration of our commitment to that,” he stated.
Dr. Amoakohene praised the level of community involvement, noting that it reflects the Ashanti people’s pride in their homeland and their readiness to support developmental initiatives.
He also used the opportunity to encourage the public to adopt proper waste management practices, discourage indiscriminate littering, and work closely with local authorities to sustain the momentum of the clean-up beyond the festival.
The AshantiFest celebration continues with various activities lined up, including cultural displays, sports, community outreach, and exhibitions, all aimed at highlighting the socio-economic potential of the region and fostering regional pride.
Residents who participated expressed appreciation for the Minister’s leadership and urged authorities to institutionalize regular clean-up exercises to maintain the city’s beauty and health.
