Ashanti Regional Minister Engages Kejetia Market Queens to Address Facility Challenges

In a bid to enhance conditions at the Kejetia Market, Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene has held a crucial meeting with Market Queens to address pressing concerns about the facility’s management. The engagement, which took place at the heart of Kumasi’s commercial hub, focused on key issues such as sanitation challenges, electricity and metering concerns, congestion, and the fair allocation of stores.

The Market Queens expressed their frustrations over the current state of affairs, citing difficulties in waste disposal, irregular power supply, and challenges in accessing retail spaces. They appealed for swift interventions to improve the overall working environment for traders and customers alike.

Following the discussions, Dr. Amoakohene assured the traders of his commitment to resolving their concerns. He emphasized the importance of collaboration between market leadership, the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), and the Kejetia Market Management Team to implement practical solutions.

“We recognize the vital role our market women play in the local economy, and it is our duty to ensure that they operate in a safe, clean, and well-managed environment. Measures have been put in place to address these challenges, and we will work closely with all stakeholders to see them through,” he assured.

Subsequently, the Minister held a follow-up meeting with KMA officials and the Kejetia Management Team to ensure that the concerns raised were given the necessary attention. Concrete steps have been initiated, with management set to roll out interventions aimed at improving sanitation, regulating electricity usage, easing congestion, and ensuring fairness in store allocation.

Market traders have welcomed the government’s swift response, expressing optimism that the planned interventions will bring lasting improvements.

As the Kejetia Market remains a key economic hub for the Ashanti Region, this engagement underscores the government’s commitment to creating a conducive environment for trade and business growth.
