Today, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, had the privilege of welcoming a delegation from the Forestry Commission, led by Deputy CEO Mr. Elikem Kotoko, to his office in Kumasi. The visit was ahead of the official launch of the highly anticipated Tree for Life initiative, which is scheduled for tomorrow in Nkawie. The event will be graced by the presence of His Excellency the President of the Republic of Ghana and the Honourable Minister for Lands and Natural Resources.
Dr. Amoakohene warmly received the delegation and expressed his deep gratitude for their dedication to this important environmental initiative. The Tree for Life campaign is aimed at combating deforestation, enhancing biodiversity, and promoting environmental sustainability through the planting of trees. This project is particularly significant for the future of the Ashanti Region and the country as a whole, as it strives to secure a greener, healthier environment for future generations.
In his address, the Minister emphasized the importance of the initiative and appealed to the Forestry Commission for further support in restoring the beauty of Kumasi, the Garden City. He requested seedlings of trees that not only contribute to the environment but also enhance urban beautification. The call is in line with the region’s goal to revitalize Kumasi’s natural landscape, which has historically been characterized by its lush greenery.
“We are committed to restoring the Garden City,” Dr. Amoakohene stated. “As we focus on reforestation, we also want to bring back the green beauty that once defined Kumasi. With the support of the Forestry Commission, we hope to make our city more vibrant and environmentally friendly for all who live here.”
Additionally, the Regional Minister highlighted plans for collaboration with Parks and Gardens to encourage local households to plant and maintain gardens and lawns. This initiative aims to reignite the greenery that has long been a part of Kumasi’s identity and encourage citizens to take an active role in the beautification of their surroundings.
As part of the ongoing efforts, Dr. Amoakohene reiterated the regional government’s commitment to environmental conservation, stressing that the success of the Tree for Life initiative will be a collective effort from all stakeholders, including the government, environmental organizations, and the people of the region.
The launch of the Tree for Life initiative tomorrow marks a pivotal moment in the fight against climate change, deforestation, and urban degradation. The Regional Minister called on all Ghanaians to join in the mission to restore the essence of the Garden City, with an emphasis on tree planting, nurturing gardens, and cultivating a more sustainable future.
Together, with this bold collaboration, the Ashanti Region is poised to make a lasting impact on the environment, revitalizing Kumasi’s lush greenery and providing future generations with a healthier and more beautiful world.
